I don't know what to do. Since I posted earlier today I weighed myself again and it shows a weight loss of 1.5 pounds now. Which one do I go by? HELP!!
If you go by your earlier weight your weight loss will show up next week.
If you want your weight loss to show up this week go with the later weigh in.
Some people like to keep a 'moving average' as in they average out their last 7 days weight. Personally mine can swing by a pound or two depending on the day and how much salt and water I've had the previous couple of days.
I hate it when on weigh in day I go telling people "Hey, I was 183!" then I stuggle for two weeks to get under 183 because that was just a fluke.
I have been gaining and losing the same 5 pounds for about 2 months now. Very tiresome. I'm hoping the food journaling will help get this party started!
Sparky is right about either losing it this week or losing it next week--it'll all be the same. The thing of it is, for me, if I have a big loss one week, I have a tenancy to not have continual big losses for the next few weeks or sometimes I'll gain a bit of it back the next week. I don't know if it's psychological or physiological, but my fear would be that if you don't take the 1.5 lb loss this week that it might not be as much next week and then you'll be kicking yourself wishing you'd taken it this week. My advise (though it's late) is to take it while you can get it and then if you break even next week, you'll know it's because of the big loss this week.
So for short term motivation, take the loss now.
Though in the grand scheme of things, it really won't make any difference because that 1.5 lbs will come of eventually.
I live on a mountain in the beautiful state of West Virginia. I have started this weight loss journey many times before. I am now on maintenance and I feel in my heart that this time it will be for keeps. I have two beautiful daughters who inspire me and support me in everything I do. I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.
I am an avid crocheter and reader and live alone with my two doggies whom I affectionately call "the kids" since they are the only little people [yes people!] in my household.

Well two theories:

I would choose the one that was closest to the time that you normally weigh.....

Hope that wasn't too confusing.
